Body found at ex-dump site

Two fishermen report smelling a foul odor in Warren Township

WARREN TOWNSHIP -- Township police are investigating the body of man found Sunday afternoon by two fishermen at a former dump site off Burnett Road and state Route 5.

Police Chief Don Bishop said the body appeared to have been there for some time due to its condition.

Police received a call at 12:42 p.m. Sunday after two men fishing at a pond at the former township dump site reported smelling a foul odor, Bishop said. The men went to investigate the odor and found the body of a man hanging from a metal beam on a tower on the property, the report states.

Bishop said the Cuyahoga County coroner's office has been contacted to do an autopsy. The chief said his office has an idea who the man may be but will wait for official identification from the coroner's office and notification of family members.

"If this is who we think it is, he hasn't been seen since May 22,'' Bishop said.

He said the coroner's investigation will determine the cause of death.
