BOARDMAN -- Area police officers are still looking for two men connected to a robbery that netted $25,000 in diamonds at the Jared's jewelry store at 7415 Market St.
According to a Boardman police report, a clerk at the store told authorities a black man who was acting suspicious took a 1.5-karat and a 2-karat diamond, along with a pair of jewelry tweezers, and fled the store Monday morning.
The clerk told police she attempted to alert the alarm company off a key fob, but it didn't work, the report states. The two diamonds had a retail value of $25,000, the report states.
According to the report, the robber walked northbound and got into a blue Chevrolet that headed north on Market Street with a white man driving.
Police officers from several agencies started chasing the vehicle to the west side of Youngstown, where it crashed near Mahoning Avenue and Meridian Road. The report states the men then ran away f rom the crash scene, but one officer reported spotting one of the men near Bears Den and Meridian roads.
No weapons or force was used to take the diamonds, the report states, and police were able to get images of the men from store cameras. The clerk told police that shortly before the 10:30 a.m. robbery, a white man came into the store coming from the direction of where the getaway car was parked.
The robber was described as wearing a thin mustache, with light to medium complexion, roughly 6-feet tall and weighing 180 pounds.
The report states during the robbery, the man was wearing black gloves, a blue puffy Ralph Lauren coat with a hood and a tan and gray Pittsburgh Pirates baseball hat.
