YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning Valley native Eric Spiegel, who has fostered local STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) educational opportunities, announced he is retiring as CEO of Siemens USA at the end of the year.
The company also announced that Lisa Davis, 53, has been appointed chair / CEO of Siemens Corp. and Judith Marks, 53, has been named Siemens CEO U.S., both effective Jan. 1.
Spiegel, 59, a Poland native and 1976 Poland Seminary High School graduate, joined Siemens in January 2010 after 25 years of global consulting experience with various organizations in the oil and gas, power, chemical, water, industrial and automotive fields.
"In announcing my retirement, I am tremendously proud of what my team and I were able to accomplish over the last seven years for one of the world's leading industrial companies in Siemens' largest market," Spiegel stated.
"As the new administration and Congress begin to outline their priorities, the time is right for Lisa and Judy to guide the company's outreach and engagement from day one."
Siemens, which produces energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, has contributed millions of dollars to the Valley.
In 2013, Spiegel visited Youngstown State University to announce a $440 million in-kind grant from Siemens for the university's STEM College.
Siemens is also a primary investor in the Lordstown Energy Center under construction along Henn Parkway and is manufacturing the gas and steam turbines for the $900 million facility.
"Eric has grown Siemens' business and furthered our reputation in the U.S. as a critical contributor to the country's economic, manufacturing and innovation engines, and we thank him for his leadership," said Davis, who leads the company's global energy operations from its oil and gas headquarters in Houston. "Judy has a deep knowledge of Siemens' entire portfolio that will serve us well during this time of transition and into the future."
Siemens has been in the United States more than 160 years. The company has 50,000 U.S. employees and approximately 75 manufacturing sites countrywide.
