Hubbard BOE names new treasurer

2 min read

HUBBARD -The Hubbard Board of Education at a special meeting on Monday named Amber Babik as the school district’s new treasurer.

Babik, a Hubbard graduate who most recently worked with Huntington Bank, was granted a three-year contract through July 31, 2018. She will make $65,000 annually.

Superintendent Ray Soloman said Babik, who is a Hubbard resident, was selected from 12 applicants who sought to fill the treasurer position when Rhonda Baldwin-Amorganos left the district last month to become treasurer for Howland schools.

In other action, the board voted to ban drones from school property and the football stadium for various sporting events, scrimmages and games.

Soloman said the Ohio High School Athletic Associatio has recommended to school districts to prohibit the operation of drones on school property and during sporting events.

For safety reasons, such as concerns of more than one drone being at an event, OHSAA also is leading the charge to ban drones during tournament play at all sporting events.

Liberty schools last month banned them from school event, and the Canfield Fair Board most recently banned drones at the fairgrounds.

A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle whose flight is controlled either autonomously by onboard computers or by the remote control of a pilot on the ground or in another vehicle. Drones often can provide a birdseye view of a sporting event.
