8:15 p.m. Sun: Five Indians, one Pirate make all-star squads

Five Cleveland Indians and a Pittsburgh Pirate reliever were named to the major league all-star rosters on Sunday evening.

Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez won the fans’ voting to be a starter for the second straight season. Also named to the American League squad were Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor, outfielder Michael Brantley and starting pitcher Cory Kluber. Another Tribe starter, Trevor Bauer, was named to replace Astros pitcher Justin Verlander who is scheduled to pitch next Sunday and thus be ineligible for the July 17 All-Star Game.

The 89th Midsummer Classic will be played in Washington D.C.’s Nationals Park. The Home Run Derby is the night before and things officially get started Sunday, July 15 with the Futures Game.

Making the National League squad as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ lone representative is reliever Felipe Vazquez.
