UPDATE: Sat. 11 pm: Man arrested in Howland shooting

HOWLAND – One person is in custody and two people are dead after a shooting Saturday afternoon on state Route 46 near Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop.

Police said the shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. after Nasser Hamad, 1564 Niles Cortland Road, opened fire on a van in the driveway. One person inside the van died at the scene and another died later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, according to police. Hamad is being held at the Trumbull County Jail on a charge of aggravated murder, according to acting Howland police Chief Sgt. Jennifer Carr.

The victims’ names are not being released until family has been notified, Carr said. More information is expected to be released on Sunday.
