RED CROSS READY: Dominion Energy Ohio, in partnership with the American Red Cross, is holding Preparedness Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles. The goal is teaching participants the importance of being "Red Cross Ready" in the event of a disaster. Red Cross and Dominion Energy volunteers will distribute first-aid kits starting 10 a.m. or until supplies are exhausted. Trained Red Cross and Dominion Energy volunteers will administer a five-minute pre-test and post-test to determine participants' safety and emergency preparedness knowledge. Participants will receive a free first-aid kit, sponsored by Dominion Energy. The kits include such safety supplies as gauze, bandages, hand sanitizer, a cold pack and useful emergency information.
YSU RELAY: The Youngstown State University Relay for Life will be 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Farmers National Bank Field, 618 Fifth Ave, Youngstown. There will be various events and activities planned with the goal to raise $45,000. Last year, the teams raised $33,841.
OPEN HOUSE: The monthly open house of the Niles Historical Society's Ward-Thomas House, 503 Brown St., will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday with the last tour beginning at 4 p.m. The membership meeting will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Westenfield Room. Society representatives recently participated in Historical Society Day at Park Vista in Youngstown where they presented items featuring Niles history. Plans are being made for Niles third-graders to visit the Ward-Thomas Museum in May to learn about local history.
JOBS WORKSHOP: YWCA Mahoning Valley will hold a job skills workshop 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, beginning Monday through April 25, at its Youngstown location, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown. Participants will receive instruction in career exploration, resume writing, interviewing practice, job stability and financial literacy. The workshops are open to women and men, age 18 and over. Participants who attend all sessions will receive a $100 stipend.
YWCA's job skills workshops help participants increase their employability and remove barriers to gainful employment to meet the demands of a challenging and changing job market. For information, contact Kim at 330-746-6361 ext. 122.
EASTER BUNNY AT LIBRARY: The Girard Free Library will welcome the Easter Bunny 6 to 7 p.m. Monday. There will be events and activities for children.
LIBRARY WEEK: With the theme "Libraries Strong Communities," National Library Week will be Sunday to April 13. There will be special activities for children, teens and adults. The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will hold a Patron Appreciation Day on Wednesday.
