River of Hope helps children in Africa
LEAVITTSBURG –Raising money to get schools built and materials provided to Ethiopian children was part of the goal of the annual children’s fest held at LaBrae High School.
The event was a fundraiser for River of Hope International, which is operated by Craig Klotzbach, a LaBrae science teacher, and his wife, Stacey.
The children’s fest included food, games, entertainment and a visit from the Easter bunny.
River of Hope has been able to build classrooms mostly in the Tigray Region of northern Ethiopia, an area hampered by an intense rainy season. Items to be purchased for the students include English language training school supplies, uniforms and tuition support.
Klotzbach brought items made in Ethiopia, such as jewelry, bracelet, and carved figurines, to show and sell at the event.
Charli Rickard of Leavittsburg and her granddaughter, Mady Rickard, 9, of Leavittsburg, spent time looking over the items.
In Ethiopia, 90 percent of the people are farmers with the faith being split among Orthodox, Muslim and Protestant.
