PA. HONDA STORE RECOGNIZED: Shenango Honda of Hermitage, Pa., has earned the prestigious 2018 Council of Excellence award, which marks outstanding financial services to its customers.
The award is given to the top 15 percent of Honda dealerships recognized by Honda Financial Services.
Shenango Honda also is a winner of the Elite Service Award, Honda Customer Service Experience Award and Fixed First Visit Award. The dealership earned the American Honda Finance's Council of Excellence Award for its performance in 2018 for the 10th time in its 39-year history.
EGCC PROFESSORS HONORED: Five professors at Eastern Gateway Community College recently received Teacher of Excellence Awards for 2018-19 from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).
Darrel Lawrence, Karen Spindler, Dr. Ken Knox, James Senary and Lisa Walsh were honored at a luncheon at EGCC. The instructors were nominated by faculty, staff and students at EGCC.
NISOD provides faculty-focused professional development programs and resources for community and technical colleges.
BIG LOTS TO CELEBRATE NEW LOCATION OPENING: Big Lots will celebrate the grand opening of its Niles store in its new location with a ribbon-cutting at 8:30 a.m. March 29.
In connection, the company will kick off a donation program to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Big Lots will donate $5 to the food bank each time a BIG Rewards loyalty member redeems a reward at the Niles store, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road, from March 29 to May 11. Also, the first 50 shoppers March 29 and 30 will receive goody bags.
The store will move from the McKinley Plaza at the Eastwood Mall to the former Toys R Us building in the Great East Plaza.
WABOR'S COMMUNITY HOME WEEK: The Warren Area Board of Realtors will celebrate Community Home Week from April 1 to 7 with student poster and student essay contests and by handing out Community Awards. The theme is "Imagining our Future!"
Contest and award winners will be announced April 9 at a banquet at DiLucia's Banquet Center. The cost is $25 per person and reservations are due by April 5 by emailing office@wabor.org.
The awards are Community Pride, Affiliate of the Year, Realtor of the Year and Walter D. Graham Civic Award. Nominations are due to the board by Wednesday.
REGIONAL CHAMBER BESTOWS HONORS: Dave Coy, president / general manager of WKBN, WYFX, WYTV, WYTV-DT, Nexstar Broadcasting Inc., and Dr. Jimmie Bruce, president of Eastern Gateway Community College, were honored Friday by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber at its annual meeting.
Coy was given the Spirit of the Chamber Award for his support and promotion of the chamber's JobsNow initiative, which addresses the gap between workforce skills and in-demand jobs. WKBN has aired segments on its evening news broadcasts to raise awareness of jobs in demand locally, what education and training is needed for the jobs and the outlook for them.
Bruce was given the Spirit of the Valley Award for his work to help make the Mahoning Valley a national leader in workforce development. EGCC is the fastest growing community college in the U.S. and has students from all 50 states. It is also offering free tuition to local high school graduates and families impacted by the decision by General Motors to idle four U.S. plants, including its assembly plant in Lordstown.
ST. VINCENT SOCIETY TAPS NEW LEADER: Darlene Snyder Jones of Warren has been hired as chief executive officer of St. Vincent de Paul Society Trumbull /Ashtabula / Portage District.
She will be responsible for restructuring the organization; which will include implementation of a new business model, expanding current programs and services, determining gaps/overlaps in area safety net services as well as donor development for the three-county area.
Jones was regional director of business development for ValleyCare Health System until the system was purchased in May 2017, when she was promoted to regional executive director of operations for Steward Health Care Network.
The organization operates a dining hall and thrift store locally and provides daily homecooked meals, food pantry boxes, low cost clothing, furniture and household goods and emergency services to thousands of needy residents in Trumbull County.
