VoiceScapes brings audio theater to Ford

VoiceScapes Audio Theater comes to Ford Family Recital Hall as the next offering in the Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series.

VoiceScapes is an audio theater repertory company that includes an award-winning cast of audio actors, directors, sound engineers, writers and producers. The group, whose members have worked on such television shows as “Orange Is the New Black” and “Law and Order SVU,” performs fun and original audio theater shows, complete with music and both live and recorded sound effects.

Among the seven scripts to be performed in Youngstown are: “Till Death Do Us Not Part,” about an attempt to cancel a deceased parent’s cable account; “It Always Feels Like Monday,” the story of a woman experiencing a very, very different day; and “Kidnapping 101,” which offers a possible explanation of why there are so few kidnappings in New York City.

VoiceScapes will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ford Family Recital Hall, DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St. Admission is $24 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and YSU faculty and staff and $14 for children ages 3 to 17. Tickets are available at the DeYor box office online at deyorpac.org and by calling 330-744-0264.

Robin Miles, a member of VoiceScapes, will conduct a master class in voice acting, narrating, producing and directing at 10 a.m. Monday at Ford Family Recital Hall.

Miles is a Grammy, Audie, Ben Franklin and Audiofile Earphone award-winning voice actor, narrator, producer and director whose clients include Audible, BBC Audiobooks America, Hachette, Harper Audio, McMillan Audio and Penguin.

An accent specialist with a love for language and literature, she has more than 300 audiobooks to her credit. A former professor at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theater, Miles holds degrees from Yale and the Yale School of Drama.

Amateur and professional voice actors, narrators, producers, directors, students of the performing arts and public speakers are encouraged to attend the class, which is free and open to the public.
