WALK-ATHON AND HEALTH FAIR: The Strike A Balance Walk-athon and Health Fair will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Eastwood Mall main concourse, hosted by the Area Agency on Aging 11. The event is in conjunction with Ohio's 10 Million Steps to prevent falls initiative.
Besides the walk, Mercy Health will provide health screenings, informational tables will be set up throughout the concourse, and exercise and cooking demonstrations will be held on center stage.
RETIREES TO MEET: St. Joseph Hospital retirees will meet for breakfast 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Wayside Restaurant in Champion. Attendees should bring a nonperishable donation for the food bank.
RETIREES TO MEET: Packard / Delphi retiree meeting is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the union hall. Our guest speaker is Robert Fenn from Social Security. All 717 retirees are welcome.
CENTER OFFERS FALL PROGRAMS: The Johnston Senior Center, 5922 Warren Road, Cortland, offers a variety of programs and activities to help you stay active and social.
Stay active with our Chair Yoga, 10 a.m. Mondays; Senior Exercise, 1 p.m. Wednesdays; and Senior Pilates, 1 p.m. Fridays.
The Center also offers a time for relaxation with Chair Massages, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

HOWLAND RETIREES TO MEET: Howland Schools Retiree will meet at 11 a.m. Oct. 3, at Enzo's Restaurant. Cost of the lunch for classified and non-classified retired school personnel, spouses, and guests is payable at the door. There will be a collection of non-perishable food, hot chocolate mix , etc. will be delivered to Emmanuel Center after the meeting. Those attending the meeting are requested to bring an item or two for this collection.

Medicare Check-Up Day 2017, an informational Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program will be held at the Girard Multi-Generational Center at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 3. This will be a presentation only. Learn about recent changes to Medicare. Find out how the Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 Medicare Annual Coordinated Election Period can work for you. Get tips on how to enroll for 2018 coverage in a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) and / or a Medicare health plan.

Flu Clinic will be provided from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 9, by The Pharmacy at Rite Aid at the Center. The clinic is free to people with most insurances. Appointments are required by calling the Center. Pneumonia shots will also be available.
Other programs and services include: Coffee bar, fitness rooms, Wii gaming system and air hockey or ping pong, One-on-One computer or tech tutoring by appointment.
The Fourth Ward Block Watch holds their monthly meetings at 5 p.m. the second Wednedsday of each month, at the Center. Assistance with Medicare, prescription assistance and many other senior citizen issues are offered by appointment with the center's Licensed Social Worker, Christine Bridgens. The center is a meal program site offering daily meals Monday through Friday through the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs. Stop by or call for a menu and details. NUTRITION SITES AVAILABLE: The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 10 locations in the county. Meals will be delivered to county residents 60 and older who are homebound, unable to cook for themselves and not living with someone who can cook for them. Client donations are accepted. 911 SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY: Individuals may sign up for the Trumbull County 911 Special Needs Registry Program to put on information on file about their own, their child's or other dependents' special needs. Police, fire and ambulance personnel will then be made aware of special needs en route to emergency calls.
Forms are available at the Trumbull County Commissioners Office, the Trumbull County Recorder's Office, all Trumbull County SCOPE centers, or on the county 911 website at www.trumbull911.co.trumbull.oh.us under the "Special Needs" tab.

SCOPE RIDES: SCOPE is partnering with The Trumbull County Transit Board to provide seniors 60 and older free rides to and from the centers. The Trumbull County Transit system delivers rides on a first-come, first-served basis 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends and holidays.
Call the center directly three days in advance of the desired trip. Some of the centers are providing the service only one or two days per week. Also, those wanting to eat meals at the Cortland, Lordstown, Niles or Warren centers need to let the center know after calling for transportation.
