FOOTBALL: YSU schedule changes

YOUNGSTOWN — The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced an updated schedule for the soon-to-begin spring season on Thursday.

The Penguins face a daunting opening four weeks, facing teams that should be ranked in the preseason top 20. YSU is still set to open on Sunday, Feb. 21, at North Dakota State.

YSU returns home to face UNI on Saturday, Feb. 27, a contest that was originally schedule for March 27. The following two weeks feature games against Southern Illinois (March 6) at Stambaugh Stadium and at South Dakota State (March 13). New to the schedule is South Dakota on March 20 at Stambaugh Stadium. The Coyotes replace Indiana State, which has decided against playing this spring. The final home game of the season is March 27 against North Dakota.

The Penguins wrap up the regular season with road visits to Western Illinois (April 3) and Missouri State (April 10). The league built in an available Saturday on April 17, should the conference need to adjust schedules for teams.

In its unwavering commitment to providing meaningful and safe competitive opportunities for the conference’s student-athletes, the MVFC will play a full eight-game schedule culminating the season with the NCAA Division I Football Championship, which begins with games on April 24.

All four YSU home games will kick off at noon. All eight contests will be carried on 570 WKBN AM and the iHeartRadio app. YSU’s home contest against UNI and North Dakota will be televised by the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
