SOFTBALL
Poland 10, Hubbard 6 — The Bulldogs plated four runs in the third and fourth innings to take a commanding lead over the Eagles and claim the win. Leading the way at the plate for Poland was Leanna Boccieri and Madison Medvec with a pair of singles each, Kylee Hudran tripled, doubled and tallied seven RBIs and Cassie Blanch singled twice and drove in two runs. Medvec picked up the win in the circle, tossing all seven innings while striking out nine, walking one and allowing nine hits. In the loss, Layla Songer homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs, Hayleigh Taylor homered and singled twice and Emalee Warren singled twice and drove in two runs. Kaylee Schultz was given the loss in 3 2/3 innings, striking out one, walking four and allowing five hits.
Canfield 6, Boardman 5 — After the Cardinals seemingly scoring four insurance runs in the top of the fifth, the Spartans plated four runs of their own to cut the lead to one run but Canfield held on to claim the close contest. Both teams tallied seven hits, but the Canfield offense was charged by Paris Lindgren, Caylee Ortiz and Cam Hrina who combined for seven base knocks, Ava Millich doubled and Sydney Lutz drove in two runs. In the loss, Ward doubled and singled and Sferra had a pair of RBIs.
Mathews 4, Maplewood 1 — The Mustangs scored a run in both the first and second innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to best the Rockets. Maddy Hufford doubled and singled in the win for Mathews. Olivia Matheny picked up the win, tossing five innings while striking out 10, walking none and allowing three hits. In the loss, Aleesia Woomer doubled and singled while Addison Marker doubled. Marker was also given the loss in six innings, striking out nine, walking two and allowing five hits.
Niles 23, Lordstown 12 — The Red Dragons exploded offensively and picked up their first win on the new turf field at Waddell Park with the crushing win over the Red Devils. Leading the offensive onslaught for Niles was Natalia Tate and Zoey Beck with four hits each, Alexi Albon added four hits including a double, Ari Jones was a perfect 5-for-5, Caroline Cormell doubled twice, added two more hits and drove in five runs, Madison Sullivan tallied four hits, Addie Barton lent five hits and Corrine Scott had a trio of hits. Zoey Beck picked up the win, striking out seven, walking none and allowing nine hits.’

Mathews 8, Ursuline 3 — Ashia Pate and Kennedy Newsome combined for a one-hitter as the Mustangs toppled the Irish. The duo combined for 11 strikeouts. At the plate for Mathews, Olivia Matheny had a pair of hits, Maddy Hufford doubled, tripled, singled and drove in two runs, Pate had a pair of hits and RBIs and Ava Shugard doubled and drove in two runs. Ursuline statistics were not submitted.
BASEBALL
Archbishop Hoban 5, Ursuline 0 — The Knights did all of their scoring in the top of the fourth inning and held the Irish to one hit to earn the shutout win. In the win, Falkenstein singled three times, Andrews, Hemlock and Cella each had a pair of singles and Marks drove in two runs. Hardesty picked up the win in seven innings, striking out eight, walking two and allowing the lone hit. For Ursuline, Kosovan was given the loss in four innings, striking out three, walking three and allowing seven hits.
Poland 7, Boardman 6 — The Bulldogs found themselves in a hole down two heading into the bottom half of the final frame and came alive for three runs to walk-off the Spartans. Leading the come-from-behind win was Carmine Tukalo and Dylan Kelty with doubles while Gavin Seifert doubled and drove in two runs. Stephen Kopkash was tagged with the win in relief, throwing the final 3 2/3 innings in which he struck out six, walked one and scattered three hits. For Boardman offensively, Grayson Eicher doubled and singled while Ryan Neifer added a double. Neifer was also given the loss, throwing 6 2/3 innings while striking out five, walking none and allowing six hits.
Crestview 6, Beaver Local 5 — The Rebels cooled the Beavers’ comeback and earned the close win Friday. In the win at the plate, Eli Cope and Braidy Willis each had a pair of hits. Logan Neff was given the win as the starter, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out two. Beaver statistics were not submitted.
Champion 6, Newton Falls 4 — The Golden Flashes claimed the lead with three runs in the second frame, two more in the fourth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to top the Tigers. The Champion offense was led by Bradey Quinby with a solo home run and Carter Chapin with three RBIs. Quinby also earned the complete-game win, striking out 10 while walking two and allowing four hits. In the loss, four Newton Falls batters singled. Leland Vargo was given the loss, throwing four innings while striking out 10, walking four and allowing four hits.
Canfield 14, Columbiana 0 (5 inn.) — Keen eyes at the plate and runs in every inning propelled the Cardinals to the win over the Clippers. Canfield walked nine times while picking up key hits from Joey Gabriel who singled twice, Zain Jadallah belted a home run and drove in three runs and Ryan Weibling added a pair of singles and RBIs. Noah Anzevino was credited with the win, striking out one, walking none and allowing no hits. The three Cardinals’ pitchers combined to allow only one hit. Sam Inboden was given the loss in three innings, striking out two, walking four and allowing six hits.
Fitch 8, West Branch 7 — The Falcons took the field in the bottom of the seventh inning clinging to a three-run lead, but the Warriors attempted a comeback and cut the lead but were too little too late. The Fitch offense was powered by Mason Petridis with a double, single and two RBIs, Gavin Loomis doubled and drove in two runs while Brady Stovall singled twice. Jaden Wallace was credited with the win in relief, tossing 3 2/3 innings, striking out four, walking four and allowing three hits. In the loss, six different West Branch batters singled while Maddox Coleman picked up a pair of RBIs. Carter Thrasher was given the loss, throwing three innings while allowing two strikeouts, walking three and allowing two hits.
Garfield 2, LaBrae 0 — Goose-eggs lit up the scoreboard until the G-Men plated a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to edge out the Vikings. Hill claimed the pitcher’s duel, tossing a complete game while striking out 11, walking six and allowing four hits. Austin Rowe was given the loss in six innings, striking out six, walking two and allowing three hits. Both pitchers stymied the opposing offenses as both Garfield and LaBrae were held to three and four hits, respectively.
Warren JFK 10, Harding 2 — The Eagles jumped to an early lead and held on to pummel the Raiders Friday. Charging the Kennedy offense was Bartoe with three singles, Carfangia doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Rinck doubled, singled and had a game-high four RBIs, Lapolla and Ryan both doubled and Bolchalk drove in two. Lapolla was credited with the win, striking out four, walking none and allowing five hits. In the loss, Borsic doubled and Johnson drove in a pair of runs. Freeman was handed the loss in 3 1/3 innings, striking out one, walking none and scattering 10 hits.
Bristol 7, Grand Valley 3 — The Panthers jumped out to an early three-run lead in the opening frame and tacked on four more insurance runs in the latter innings to topple the Mustangs. The 11-hit Bristol offense was headed by Croc Thorp with a double and single, Diesel Williams tripled, singled and had a pair of RBIs, Jonas Miller lent a trio of singles and two RBIs and Brock Pierce singled twice. Kaiden Kohler picked up the complete-game win, striking out 12, walking one and allowing five hits. For Grand Valley, Plizga singled twice. Stroud was given the loss in four innings, striking out four, walking three and scattering six hits.
