BOYS BASKETBALL
Mineral Ridge 45, Leetonia 30 — Despite a close game at the close of the first half, a strong third quarter propelled the Rams to the win over the Bears. Jon Rozzi led the charge with 13 points for Mineral Ridge with Chase Moore right behind with 12 to round out the Rams’ leading scorers. Leetonia’s CJ Faulkner led with 11 points.
Hubbard 70, McDonald 50 — Nearly all Hubbard’s players recorded a bucket in the 20-point throttling of the Blue Devils. Brayden Songer picked up a game-high 27 points to lead the Eagles, and Jacob Hayes added 11 to top the Hubbard roster. In the Loss, Branden Emerick clipped four three-pointers on his way to a team-high 20 points while Chris Ragazzine recorded 15.
Struthers 56, Academy for Urban Scholars 16 — The Wildcats dominated the Hawks to claim their first win of the season. Tommy Cole led Struthers’ offense with 14 points, while Tyzjere Price added 11. Raim Black tallied nine points to lead the Hawks in the loss.
Windham 66, Badger 55 — A strong second half propelled the Bombers to the win over the Braves. Carlos Bruton tallied a game-high 28 points behind four baskets from beyond the arc, to lead Windham. For Badger, Alton Winchek recorded a team-high 17 points while Jack Harnett added 14.
Mathews 76, Pymatuning Valley 52 (from late Tuesday) — Dom Toto’s 32 points launched the Mustangs to the dominant win over the Lakers. Jake Petak tallied 20 points and Anthony Marinkovich added 10 to round out the leading scorers for Mathews. For the Lakers, Max Smith recorded 14 points and Justin Britton was right behind with 13 to lead Pymatuning Valley.
Liberty 60, Girard 53 (from late Tuesday) — The Leopards got off to a hot start and didn’t look back to top the Indians. Evan Bates led all scorers with 14 points for Liberty and the duo of Luke Bates and Dearmani Franklin each added 12 to help lead the Leopards. For Girard, Dom Phillips and AJ Pearson each tallied 10 points to lead the Indians.
Mooney 47, Valley Christian 41 (from late Tuesday) — Nico Genova’s 15 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc, launched the Cardinals to the close victory over the Eagles. Adding to the win were Dom Letlow with 14 points and 10 from Dante Turner.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
West Branch 34, Salem 24 — The Warriors pulled out the low-scoring affair with the Quakers thanks to an 11-point fourth quarter. West Branch was led by Audrey Eaton’s team-high eight points. For the Quakers, Abby Knickerbocker led the team with seven points.
Boardman 60, Chaney 52 — The Spartans dominated at the free-throw line for a 60-52 victory over the Cowboys on Wednesday. As a team, Boardman shot 26-for-38 from the charity stripe. Ava Freeborough led the Spartans with 20 points, while Alyssa Brown scored 28 points for the Cowgirls.
Archbishop Hoban 59, Howland 30 — A 21-point second quarter launched the Knights to the 29-point win. A trio of Knights, Taylyn Banta, Mera Stevens and Amaraya Davis, each led Hoban with 10 points each. For Howland, Rylie Villwock collected nine points to lead the Tigers.
Canfield 60, Louisville 40 — The Cardinals won their seventh straight contest with the 20-point thrashing of the Leopards. Thirteen points from Jenna Triveri led the Canfield offense, while Aleen Barakat added 12 and Carly Fleming tallied 10 points to level Canfield’s leading scorers. For Louisville, Baker tallied a game-high 15 points while Barwick added 12.
Jackson-Milton 54, Sebring 15 — The Blue Jays started the game strong and kept their foot on the gas for all four quarters to dominate the Trojans. Amani Yasin’s triple-double led Jackson-Milton with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while Nora Schwarted tallied 14 points and Emma Johns added 13. Olivia Newhard led the Blue Jays with 15 rebounds as well.
Fitch 48, Ursuline 35 — Behind 21 points from Rachel Spaulding, the Falcons claimed the win over the Fighting Irish. Samantha Severn added 13 for Fitch to round out the teams’ leading scorers. Kennedy Carpenter and Marina Dellitto each tallied six points for Ursuline in the loss.
Kennedy 57, Lake Center Christian 20 — The duo of Didi Ryan and Gianna Pompelia led the offensive charge for the Eagles in the 37-point thrashing of Tigers. Ryan led with 17 points, while Pompelia added 16. In the loss, Lilly Kane recorded 17 points to lead Lake Center Christian.
Badger 44, Windham 12 — The Braves dominated the Bombers to earn the 32-point win. Leading the charge for Badger was Sophie Stanhope who recorded 10 points to lead all scorers. For Windham, Mackenzi Blockinger and Makenna Jones each scored four points.
