High school basketball capsules – Jan. 24, 2022

BOYS BASKETBALL

Badger 51, Lordstown 46 – A 17-10 second quarter was the difference Monday night as the Braves held off Lordstown in a 5-point game. Jack Lendak led Badger with 16 points and Heath Stanhope tallied 11 in the win. Kaiden Anthony scored 14 points for Lordstown while Jaden Weaver recorded 12.

Berkshire 49, Grand Valley 47 – Berkshire held on in a close one Monday night as they outscored Grand Valley 18-13 in the final frame to top the Mustangs.

Grand Valley was led by Hogan Hejiduk who poured in a game-high 21 points. Caden Vatty added 13 in the loss.

Jefferson 70, Niles 59 – Despite a 25-point third quarter, the Red Dragons couldn’t overcome a first-half deficit and fell to the Falcons on a snow covered night. Keyson Talley and Robt Strickland led Niles with 14 points apiece. Sam Perrone also tallied 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Maplewood 48, Mathews 31 – The rockets jumped out to a quick 10-point lead in the first half on Monday and never looked back.

Marissa Ventura set the tone with 15 points, Baylie Starcher added 12 and Abbey Nay scored 10. Bella Greenwood and Brooke Bauer scored 11 points a piece for Mathews.
