Youngstown CC pro Sundstrom earns golf honor

Scott Sundstrom, head golf professional at Youngstown Country Club, has been named the Northern Ohio PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

The award, presented at the NOPGA’s recent annual fall meeting and awards ceremony, recognizes an individual PGA professional for his or her total contributions to the game of golf that best exemplify the complete PGA professional.

“I am very humbled, yet very honored, to receive this award,” Sundstrom said. “The Northern Ohio PGA is an organization for which I have the utmost respect. I also thank the members of the Youngstown Country Club for allowing me to become involved in the governance of the NOPGA, as well as the golf shop staff at YCC. We could not be successful without their hard work and support.

“I am very proud to be associated with the Youngstown Country Club and honored to represent them as their PGA Golf Professional.”

Sundstrom, a native of Meadville, Pennsylvania, has been on duty at the Youngstown Country Club for 19 seasons. He also has been assistant golf professional at Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh and Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida. He was also the head golf professional at Wanango Country Club in the Franklin/Oil City area in Pennsylvania for nine seasons.

Sundstrom has been on the Board of Directors of the Northern Ohio PGA for 12 years. He has served as the secretary, vice president and president for the Section. He is also the past winner of the Bill Strausbaugh Award and Horton Smith Award.

The Northern Ohio Section PGA is one of 41 sections throughout the country and it includes Cleveland, Toledo, Akron-Canton and Youngstown.

The Northern Ohio PGA is an association of golf professionals. The mission of the Northern Ohio PGA is to promote interest and enjoyment in the game of golf while enhancing the well-being of its members.
