Phantoms defeat Muskegon
Rookie Reilly Funk’s two-goal game and a strong goaltender performance from Chicago Blackhawks draft pick Dominic Basse pushed the Phantoms past Muskegon, 4-2.
The Phantoms got on the board early with a one-timer from Linden Alger. They scored again four minutes later when Funk scored his first goal off a rebounded shot from Trevor Kuntar. Funk extended the Phantoms lead to 3-1, poking a wrist shot in from Matthew Cassidy. Funk has had a great start to his Phantoms career, with points in all four games of his career thus far. John Beaton scored his first USHL goal, sending a shot from Arseni Smeknov’s breakaway attempt in the net to give the Phantoms a 4-1 lead. Oliver MacDonald put a goal in for the Lumberjacks, but it was too late.
The Phantoms (2-1-1-0, 5 points) face Muskegon again tonight at 7:05 to wrap up the weekend series.
