Scrappers turn tables on Batavia, 5-0
BATAVIA, NY – After losing to Batavia 5-0 on Sunday, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fired back with a win of their own, beating the Muckdogs 5-0 with a four-run ninth inning.
Bryan Lavastida, Johnathan Rodriguez and Joab Gonzalez all plated runners in the ninth inning. Rodriguez scored Raynel Delgado and Lavastida, who had driven in Julian Escobedo just before.
Lavastida had a strong performance for the Scrappers, hitting three-of-four on the night with a double and triple.
Rodriguez also performed well, with two hits, three RBIs and a home run that came in the top of the second inning, giving the Scrappers their only run that didn’t come in the ninth.
On the mound was Brian Eichhorn who threw eight strikeouts across six innings and allowed four hits. Coming into the game in relief was Eric Mock who picked up his first save of the year.
The Scrappers (26-30) close out the series against Batavia tonight at 7:05. They sit 6 1/2 games out of first place in the Pinckney Division with the Muckdogs leading the division. Mahoning Valley is also 6 1/2 games out of the wild card position.
