Scrappers lose in 10 innings

AUBURN, NY – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell in 10 innings Tuesday night after a walkoff single by Auburn third baseman Jake Alu that scored J.T. Arruda to give the Doubledays a3-1 win.

It took until the fifth inning for the first run of the game to be scored. Auburn designated hitter Wilmer Perez doubled on a fly ball that sent Onix Vega home. In the next inning Ricardo Mendez scored on a sacrifice by Jake Randa.

The Scrappers’ two runs came from solo home runs by Johnathan Rodriguez in the seventh inning and Bryan Lavastida in the ninth. Lavastida’s home run sent the game to extra innings.

Rodriguez was the lone Scrapper to finish with multiple hits.

Indians fifth round draft pick Hunter Gaddis started the game for the Scrappers throwing five strikeouts. Matt Waldron came into the game in relief also throwing five strikeouts.

The Scrappers (34-35) are 3.5 games back of the Pinckney Division lead. Up next for the Scrappers is a three-game home series against State College beginning tonight. First pitch against the Spikes is scheduled for 7:05.
