STRIDERS: Four heading to nationals

COLUMBUS — Four members of the Warren Striders Track Club have qualified for the 2019 AAU Junior Olympic Games Track & Field Championships July 27-Aug. 2 at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.

The four members of the Warren Striders Track Club were among the top six finishers in their events at the AAU Region 4 Track &Field Championships held at Franklin Heights High School June 27-30. The four qualifiers represent the 20th consecutive year, since 2000, the Warren Striders Track Club has advanced participants to the National Junior Olympics Championships.

The four Striders participating are: Jaret Hoffman (fourth, long jump; fifth, Turbo javelin) in the boys 8U age group; Norah Schneider and Sophia Bonacker (fifth and sixth in the 1500-meter run, respectively) in the girls 10 age group; and Sarah Schneider (fourth, in the 400-meter hurdles) in the girls 15-16 category.

Rounding out the Warren Striders participating in the Ohio AAU Region 4 Championship meet were: Ben Peterson (boys 15-16, 100, long jump, 400); Jocelyn Hill (girls 10, 100 and 200); Aundrea Cooper, (girls 12, 100); Makiya Simpson (girls 13, 200); and Layla Brady (girls 14, 100 hurdles, 200 hurdles and 200).

The Warren Striders, embarking on their 42nd year, are coached by Jack Thornton, Jr., and assisted by James Guy, JR Davenport, Angela Davenport and Heather Schneider.
