Scrappers shut out by Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Brooklyn scored three in the first three innings and never trailed against Mahoning Valley in Wednesday’s opener of this New York-Penn League contest, 9-0.
Jhonneyver Gutierrez gave up the first three Brooklyn runs in four innings of work as he dropped to 1-3 on the season for the Scrappers (13-13).
The Cyclones’ top three batters went a combined 8-for-12 with five RBIs.
Mahoning Valley only had six runners left on base during Wednesday’s game, never having more than four batters come to the plate in an inning.
Frank Valentino went six innings, giving up two hits, one walk and struck out seven to keep the Scrappers’ bats quiet. He improved to 1-1 for the Cyclones (13-12).
The two teams continue their series tonight, starting at 7 p.m.
