Scrappers jump on Crosscutters in 6-inning game
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Mahoning Valley scored in each of the first four innings, including three runs in the first inning, and went on to a rain-shortened 7-0 victory Tuesday over the Williamsport Crosscutters.
Michael Cooper delivered a two-run single and Johnathan Rodriguez added an RBI groundout as the Scrappers (10-8) scored all the runs they would need in the opening frame.
Brayan Rocchio, Eric Rodriguez and George Valera all delivered RBI doubles in the next three innings, respectively.
The game was called in the middle of the sixth inning. MV finished with 12 hits, while the Crosscutters (4-14) were held to three hits.
Matt Turner (1-2) was dominant on the mound for the Scrappers, pitching all five innings. He struck out two.
The teams conclude their series tonight at 7:05 in Williamsport.
The Scrappers return home for the Fourth of July on Thursday night when State College comes to Eastwood Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 on the first Buck Night of the season when general admission seats, hot dogs and drinks are just $1.
