Scrappers, Cyclones to play doubleheader today

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Brooklyn Cyclones took a preemptive strike against Mother Nature as their game Thursday against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers was postponed because of severe weather expected to hit the New York City area.

The two teams start today at 5 p.m., playing two seven-inning games with a 30-minute break in between contests.

Carlos Vargas is slated to get the start for Mahoning Valley (13-13), while Brooklyn (13-12) is yet to name its starter for this New York-Penn League doubleheader.

The Scrappers try to snap a three-game losing streak.

Mahoning Valley has lost five of its last seven games coming into today’s doubleheader.

Brooklyn won Wednesday’s opener, 9-0, but the Cyclones have lost five of their last seven games.
