Scrappers beaten by first-place Muckdogs

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Batavia’s Andrew Turner led the way in the Muckdogs’ seven-run fifth inning with a a bases-clearing double as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell 7-2 on Saturday.

Turner’s three RBI double gave the Muckdogs (22-13) a 5-2 lead.

Milton Smith’s singled later in the inning scored Turner, while Ronal Reynoso doubled to drive in Smith.

Starter Julio Frias (3-1), who threw eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings, got the win.

Francis Cespedes (2-2), who went a 1/3 of an inning after Liam Jenkins struck out four and didn’t allow any runs in four innings, took the loss.

The Scrappers (17-18) scored two on an error by Batavia first baseman Sean Reynolds in the top of the second inning.

The two teams play today, starting at 5:05 p.m.
