Phantoms complete sweep
YOUNGSTOWN — Goals by Matthew Barnaby and Brett Murray and a 20-save performance by Chad Veltri were decisive in the Youngstown Phantoms’ (27-14-1-4, 59 points) 3-1 win over the Green Bay Gamblers Sunday night at the Covelli Centre.
The victory, coupled with a 5-3 win over the Gamblers on Saturday night, drops to nine Youngstown’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot for the third straight year. The Phantoms could clinch a playoff spot as early as next Sunday in Madison, depending on other results.
On Saturday, Youngstown took a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes, but entered the third period trailing 3-2. Goals by Connor MacEachern, Jeppe Urup and Matt DeMelis put the Phantoms back on top for good.
Youngstown will be on the road for its next four games, beginning in Chicago on Friday night.
