Cleveland State’s first Horizon win comes over YSU
CLEVELAND — Devin Morgan had all of his team-high 17 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Youngstown State men’s basketball team dropped its third straight game, 72-62.
Naz Bohannon had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for YSU (6-16, 2-7 Horizon League).
Donel Cathcart III added 10 points for the Penguins.
The Vikings, who won their first Horizon League game, were led by Rashad Williams with 20 points off the bench. Jaalam Hill and Tyree Appleby each had 16 points for a CSU team which shot 26-of-57 from the floor and 11-of-26 from 3-point range.
YSU had 16 turnovers and nine assists, while the Vikings (6-16, 1-8) had 11 turnovers and 19 assists, led by Appleby’s eight.
CSU led 37-20 at halftime, but the Penguins went on a 14-0 run to cut the Vikings’ lead to 44-34 as Morgan’s 3 hit with 13 minutes remaining.
Morgan had another 3 with 1:34 remaining as CSU lead 67-59, but got no closer.
Thursday, YSU begins a two-game road trip starting at Oakland (Mich.). Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
