Scrappers lose; lead is 1/2 game

GRANVILLE, W.Va. — Mike Gretler doubled and singled twice, and Osvaldo Bido allowed just three hits over six innings as the West Virginia Black Bears beat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-2 on Saturday.

Coupled with Auburn’s 10-5 victory over Batavia, the Scrappers lead in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division was cut to a half-game.

The Scrappers and Doubledays have two days remaining in the regular season which ends Monday.

West Virginia reliever Conner Loeprich got Jose Fermin to hit into a forceout with the bases loaded to end the game for his seventh save of the season.

Scrappers starter Juan Mota (4-6) went four innings, allowing three runs and seven hits. He also struck out one and walked one.
