Williamsport hammers Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Williamsport had a four-run fifth inning which proved more than enough to blank Mahoning Valley in Tuesday’s New York-Penn League game, 8-0.

The Scrappers were limited to two hits.

Auburn defeated West Virginia, 8-4, to keep the magic number at five for Mahoning Valley to win the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division. The Scrappers (38-31) remain a game-and-a-half in front of Auburn.

Scrappers starter Yefferson Yanuzzi went four innings, gave up three runs and took the loss — dropping to 0-3.

Tonight, Mahoning Valley hosts Batavia, starting at 7:05 p.m.
