Scrappers thumped at Batavia

BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost to the Batavia Muckdogs, 8-2, Friday night, the second straight loss for the Scrappers.

MV (28-17) still has the best record in the New York-Penn League, but their lead in the pinckney Division was cut to 2 1/2 games over the Auburn Doubledays.

The Scrappers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings, but Batavia (21-25) blew the game open with a six-run sixth. The Muckdogs added solo runs in the seventh and eighth.

Jose Fermin had a triple and a single for Mahoning Valley, which had seven hits on the night.

The teams play again tonight in Batavia, then the Scrappers return to Eastwood Field on Sunday for a three-game series against State College.

General admission tickets on Sunday are just 20 cents, to celebrate the 20th season of the Scrappers. A team poster giveaway is planned Sunday with a postgame autograph session with the team on the field.
