Hubbard, Garfield move on to state in girls Division-II bowling

Hubbard and Garrettsville Garfield advanced to the Division II girls bowling state tournament and individuals Rachel Foreback of Girard and Madison Stanton of Struthers both advanced after district competition Saturday at Rebman Recreation at Lorain.

Garfield won the district title and Hubbard finished third. The top four teams advanced to state which is next Saturday (girls) and Sunday (boys) for Division II. Area Division I teams play in district competition today (boys, at Stonehedge Lanes, Akron) and Monday (girls, at Freeway Lanes, Warren).

The Hubbard senior duo of Amber Davis and Bethany Jones led the Eagles on Saturday. Both shot 573 in the three-game individual qualifying series to tie for 15th overall.

Garfield was paced by Dezaray Mcie who was third with a 672. Peyton Sledz was tied for ninth with a 605, and Taylor Cressman was 11th with a 604.

Foreback had the second-best individual score with a 710. Stanton placed fourth with a 665 series.

The Champion girls finished fifth, just 48 pins from the fourth and last qualifying position. Ashley Nicholas led the Golden Flashes with a 578, good for 14th place.

Struthers finished seventh in the team standings and Girard was eighth.
