Harding boys, girls fall; Champion, Bristol girls survive
¯ FITCH 64, HARDING 52: AUSTINTOWN — Todd Simons scored 27 points for the Falcons in a win over Harding.
Simons led with a game-high and was aided by DeShawn Vaughn who scored 14 points and Cam Smith who added 11.
¯ CANFIELD 57, HOWLAND 52: CANFIELD — The Cardinals close out the regular season on a high note with a win over Howland to move to 11-9 on the season.
Trey Dye led the team with 22 points and Zane Muckleroy scored 11.
¯ COLUMBIANA 64, BROOKFIELD 61: COLUMBIANA — The Warriors scored 28 points in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit as the Clippers close out the regular season on top.
Nick Million and Dalton Whitehair each scored 19 points to lead Columbiana.
¯ NEWTON FALLS 64, LaBRAE 30: NEWTON FALLS — A chaotic regular season ends for the Tigers (13-5, 9-2) in a win that clinched at worst a tie in the league title race.
Joey Kline approached a triple-double with 22 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Cole Marquette tacked on 14 points.
LaBrae (9-5, 7-3) was led by Aidan Stephens who had eight points.
¯ LAKEVIEW 59, NILES 53: CORTLAND — The Bulldogs outscored Niles 21-4 in the third quarter to get the win.
Brendon Kilpatrick dropped 34 points for Lakeview and Nate Fox tacked on 11.
Kross Naples led the Red Dragons with 19 points with Doug Foster adding 17.
¯ WINDHAM 65, LORDSTOWN 48: LORDSTOWN — Bert Jones scored 22 points for the Bombers in a win over Lordstown.
Jones finished with a game-high and was aided by Chase Eye with 16 points and Mikiylen Jones who added 15. Aiden Force led the Red Devils with 13.
¯ CRESTWOOD 68, CHALKER 66: MANTUA — Chalker rallied back in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough in a loss to Crestwood.
Jordan Kellar led the Wildcats with 27 points. James Stull scored 15 points and Chayse Harris added 11.
Jakecki scored a game-high 29 points for the Red Devils.
¯ CHAMPION 49, COLUMBIANA 48: CHAMPION — The hosts Golden Flashes survived by scoring the final six points of the Division III sectional final in about 20 seconds to down the Clippers.
Freshman Bella Meyer made a 3-pointer to pull fourth-seeded Champion within 48-46. She then stole the ball and made another 3-pointer to stun 12th-seeded Columbiana.
Emma Gumont led the Flashes (9-5) with 23 points and Meyer finished with 12, all on 3-pointers. Brooke Whitt added 10 points. Champion will play host to fifth-seeded Ursuline in a district semifinal on Wednesday.
¯ BROOKFIELD 48, UNITED 41: BROOKFIELD — The third-seeded Warriors displayed their consistency and balanced scoring against the 10th-seeded Golden Eagles in a Division III sectional final.
Brookfield (17-3) scored 12 points in every quarter and got 16 points from Sophia Hook, 12 from Anna Reichart and 11 from Audrey Reardon. The Warriors will host to sixth-seeded Crestview in a district semifinal Wednesday. They lost twice to the Rebels in MVAC-Gray Tier contests this season.
United, which finished 15-8, got 10 points apiece from Madison Kibler and Grayson Kidder and eight from Grace Knight.
¯ MAPLEWOOD 49, SOUTHERN 23: MECCA — The Rockets were led by Marissa Ventura in a win over Southern in a sectional bracket final matchup.
Ventura had a game-high 17 points for Maplewood and freshman Caleigh Richards added 14.
Freshman Ashley Shroades led the Indians with 12 points.
The Rockets face Western Reserve in the district semifinals on Wednesday.
¯ BRISTOL 42, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 37: BRISTOL — Bristol scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to come back and get the win. Leading for the Eagles was Kristen Gill with 12 points. Dezyrae Dean tallied 10.
¯ McDONALD 96, CHALKER 16: McDONALD — The Blue Devils cruised to a sectional bracket final win after outscoring Chalker 36-0 in the first quarter.
Twelve players for McDonald registered points in the win with Sophia Constantino leading the way with 18. Maddy Howard scored 13 and Molly Howard scored 10.
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 62, WINDHAM 31: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Jays’ Kylie Wilson and Chelsea Williams outscored Windham by themselves as Jackson-Milton cruised in a Division IV sectional bracket final.
Williams and Wilson each scored 20 points for the Blue Jays (15-7), who took a 19-6 first-quarter lead to set the tone. Williams sank four of the team’s six 3-pointers. Wilson hit the other two and was 4-of-5 from the line. Williams also dished out four assists and made six steals. Kelsie Taylor grabbed 10 boards and scored eight points.
¯ MARLINGTON 56, GIRARD 39: ALLIANCE — The Indians saw their season end in the sectional bracket final to Marlington Saturday. Sieasia Triplett led Girard with seven points and Mia Malito added five. 10 players registered points for the Indians. Girard finishes its season at 8-10.
¯ WEST GEAUGA 41, MOONEY 37: YOUNGSTOWN — The ninth-seeded Cardinals were outscored 14-5 at the free throw line by the 11th-seeded Wolverines in a Division II sectional final.
The game was tight throughout with the hosts trailing 12-9 after one quarter, 17-15 at halftime and 28-26 entering the fourth quarter.
Mooney (12-7) was 5-for-9 from the stripe and West Geauga was 14-for-22. Katie Hough scored 13 points and Alaina Scavina added 11 for the Cardinals.
