Newton Falls downs LaBrae; Hubbard wins
¯ NEWTON FALLS 51, LaBRAE 46: LEAVITTSBURG — The Tigers used four putbacks in the third quarter to turn the tide against the host Vikings.
Newton Falls outscored LaBrae 12-4 in the period to snap a 27-all halftime tie after the hosts had rallied from a 15-8 first-quarter deficit.
Josh Honeycutt scored 14 points and Jordan Dowling added 11 for the Tigers. Joey Kline supplied 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists and Cole Marquette added nine points.
Aidan Stephens led the Vikings with 18 points and Tre’Von Drake netted 10.
¯ STRUTHERS 62, LAKEVIEW 53: CORTLAND — The visiting Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 30-20 in the middle quarters to take a 45-35 lead into the final eight minutes and held court the rest of the way.
Trey Metzka poured in 24 points and Aidan Slocum netted 13 to stoke Struthers in the Northeast-8 Conference win.
The Bulldogs were led by Brendon Kilpatrick’s 17 points and Ryan Carnahan’s 15. Nate Fox chipped in with 11 points.
The Golden Bears got 15 points apiece from John Clay and D.J. Waller, Xavion Leonard scored 11 and Reuben Talley chipped in with nine points.
¯ HUBBARD 54, GIRARD 49: HUBBARD — The Eagles were led by Riley Heckert in a win over Girard.
Heckert scored a team-high 15 points and was followed up by three additional double-figure scorers for Hubbard.
Anthony Gagliardi scored 13 points, Andrew Frank scored 11 and Ryan Laird added 10.
Thomas Cardiero had a game-high 19 points for the Indians and Bobby Alejars scored 13.
¯ BRISTOL 71, BADGER 42: BRISTOLVILLE — The Panthers outscored Badger 25-6 in the first quarter on their to a big win over the Braves.
Mikey Burbach led Bristol with 20 points. He was one of four to reach the double-figure threshold with Jeremy Miller following up with 13, Logan Zirzow with 11 and Anthony Dakin adding 10.
Carter Burnett and Brad Hamilton each scored 11 for Badger.
¯ JEFFERSON 73, NILES 64: NILES — Doug Foster scored 22 points for the Red Dragons, but it wasn’t enough in a loss to Jefferson.
Foster led the team with 22 points with Alleni Fryer adding 15.
Niles outscored Jefferson 20-14 in the fourth quarter to close the gap.
¯ FAIRPORT 77, CHALKER 46: SOUTHINGTON — Chalker fell into a hole early and weren’t able to rally back to beat Fairport.
The Wildcats trailed 25-8 after the first quarter and 46-18 at halftime.
Jordan Kellar led Chalker with 13 points and James Stull added 10.
¯ McDONALD 88, WESTERN RESERVE 34: BERLIN CENTER — The visiting Blue Devils made 19 3-pointers to storm the host Blue Devils.
Western Reserve stayed close in the first quarter, trailing just 19-14, but McDonald scored at least 21 points in each of the final three periods. Western Reserve managed 20 points combined in the final three quarters.
Eli Street scored 25 points on the strength of seven 3-pointers to lead McDonald. Miles Culp (21 points) and Dom Carkido (16) each made four 3s and Jake Portolese (19) added a trio of 3s.
Luke Henning scored 13 points for Western Reserve.
¯ CRESTVIEW 56, BROOKFIELD 51: COLUMBIANA — The Rebels were guided by Jack Yerkey’s 19-point performance in a league win over Brookfield.
Yerkey had a game-high and was followed up by Drake Golden who scored 18 points and Tony Perorazio who scored 11.
Donovan Pawlowski led Brookfield with 17 points and Haden Gibson added 11.
¯ WATERLOO 53, MINERAL RIDGE 45: ATWATER — The visiting Rams were outscored 20-6 in the third quarter to fall behind 43-27 and couldn’t recover.
Waterloo led 16-7 after the first quarter, but the Rams pulled within 23-21 at halftime.
Kyle Shockley scored 21 points and Jack Sandel added 11 for the Vikings. Jalen Royal-Eiland had 12 points, all on 3-pointers, to lead the Rams.
¯ LEETONIA 54, MAPLEWOOD 49: LEETONIA — Dylan Lennon and Ian Davis combined for 29 points to lead the Bears, who used a 29-13 scoring advantage in the third period to stake a 48-33 lead entering the fourth quarter after trailing at halftime 20-19.
Lennon scored 16 points, Davis had 13 and Timmy Finch added nine.
Connor Steffens and Logan Burggraff both scored 16 points for the Rockets and Alex Donaldson added 10.
¯ VALLEY CHRISTIAN 54, EAST PALESTINE 26: EAST PALESTINE — The Eagles move to 4-2 on the year after a win over East Palestine.
Valley Christian was led by Mark Revere who scored a game-high 16 points and Zavion Howard added 12.
Leading on the scoresheet for East Palestine was Dom Wycoff with 12.
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 50, SEBRING 46: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Jays staved off a 21-point fourth quarter from Sebring to hold onto the win.
The Trojans outscored Jackson-Milton 21-9 in the final frame, nearly erasing its 41-25 deficit heading into the fourth.
Leading for the Blue Jays was Cole Grope who scored 14 points and Nick McGinnis who scored 12.
Sebring hit 11 3-pointers and was led by Dylan Johnson who scored 16 points. Connor Shepherd scored 14 and Matt Byrd paced the Trojans with 10.
