Tigers’ Babinchak runs for 400 in win over Niles

¯ HOWLAND 42, NILES 36: HOWLAND — Howland’s Eric Babinchak ran for 414 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers overcame a 14-point deficit to outlast neighborhood rival Niles.

Babinchak scored on runs of 4, 8, 20 and 35. He ran the ball 43 times and accounted for all but 10 of the Tigers’ total yards. Niles scored the first two touchdowns and led 15-0 midway through the first half when Howland (5-4) answered with 21 straight points for a 21-15 halftime lead.

Niles (5-4) took the lead again by scoring on a 29-yard pass from Zack Leonard to Alleni Fryer early in the first half. The Tigers kept responding, with David Burman scoring on a 1-yard run. Leonard, who completed 21-of-36 passes for 279 yards, three TDs and zero interceptions, answered with a 5-yard TD run (he had two rushing TDs).

Burman ahd Babinchak scored on runs of 2 and 35 to give the Tigers a 42-29 lead. Leonard added one more TD pass to Antuan Gardner for 22 yards with 4:18 remaining to finish the scoring.

Alleni Fryer made 11 catches for 130 yards the Red Dragons.

¯ COLUMBIANA 16, LAKEVIEW 10: CORTLAND — Lakeview couldn’t overcome an early deficit and lost the season finale to the Clippers.

Columbiana (4-4) led, 13-0, after the first quarter, socring on a 54-yard pass from Anthony Kocanjer to Xathon Cross and a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cross.

Lakeview (1-7) answered with a 29-yard pass from Nate Fox to Gavin Mauger for a TD. Brandon Kilpatrick added a 48-yard field, but the Bulldogs only passed for 29 yards in the game and had three interceptions. They drove inside Columbiana territory, reaching the 27-yard line midway through the fourth, but they couldn’t finish the comeback.
