Maplewood girls, Richards win D3 girls Spartan title
BOARDMAN — Maplewood freshman Caleigh Richards placed first again this season.
Her teammates followed behind as the Rockets won another team title in 2020, taking Thursday’s Division III Spartan Invitational girls cross country title at Boardman High School.
Maplewood beat out Gilmour Academy, 40 to 49.
Richards won in a time of 19:12, while fellow freshman Haley Agardi was fifth. Marissa Ventura (eighth), Emily Butler (12th) and Ella Nevinsky (16th), placed in the top 20 for the Rockets.
Meanwhile, McDonald’s Brody Rupe won the boys race in a time of 16:29.9.
Rupe led the Blue Devils to a third-place finish in the boys team standings with 113 points, behind first-place Canton Central Catholic (50) and East Canton (77). Maplewood’s boys were fourth (135), while South Range took fifth (161).
Maplewood’s girls took another first-place finishing this season by edging out Gilmour Academy, 40 to 49. Mineral Ridge was third (97), while McDonald was fifth (171).
Mineral Ridge’s Sylvia Traw placed in the top five during the girls’ race, while South Range’s Michael Hvizdos paced the Raiders with a fourth-place finish on the boys’ side.
Division I racing begins Saturday morning, while the Division II runners go in the afternoon back at Boardman High School.
