Fitch junior Roberts wins district title

MENTOR — Austintown Fitch’s Colin Roberts won a district title, and the Falcons finished seventh at the Division I Mentor District wrestling tournament.

Overall, three Fitch wrestlers qualified for the state wrestling tournament. The top four placers at Saturday’s district advanced to the state tournament, Friday through Sunday at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Roberts, now a two-time state qualifier, beat Dyvaire VanDyke of Walsh Jesuit, 8-5, to claim the 126-pound title. The junior will be a No. 1 seed at the state tournament. Senior Joey Perez placed third at 285 pounds, and senior Zach Richards was fourth at 145 pounds. Tyler Lintner was fifth at 138 pounds and will be a state alternate for Fitch, who scored 74.5 team points. Brecksville and Wadsworth tied for the team championship with 233 points each.
