McDonald rolls on; Mathews, Badger, PV win in NAC

¯ McDONALD 54, SPRINGFIELD 37: NEW MIDDLETOWN — McDonald stayed perfect in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play thanks to a solid defensive effort.

The Blue Devils (13-1, 10-0) held Springfield to six points in the second quarter and seven points in the third as they took a 37-25 lead. Molly Howard led the way with a game-high 21 points. Her sister, Maddy Howard, added 11.

Kylee Kosek (13 points) and Abby Joseph (11) powered the Tigers (7-9).

¯ POLAND 62, GIRARD 31: POLAND — Jackie Grisdale sank seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points as the Bulldogs clobbered Girard in a Northeast-8 Conference matchup.

Grisdale drilled six of her 3-pointers in the first half as Poland (14-2, 10-0) took a 34-17 lead. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a 21-4 advantage in the third quarter.

Marissa Cave led Girard (9-8) with eight points.

¯ SOUTH RANGE 58, HUBBARD 34: HUBBARD — A dominant second half allowed South Range to break open a tie game and eventually roll past the Eagles in a Northeast-8 Conference clash.

The game was tied, 21-21, at halftime, but the Raiders (11-5) outscored Hubbard, 37-13, in the final two quarters to pull away. Lexi Giles scored 16 of her game-high 19 in the second half, while Izzy Lamparty added 11 of her 15 points. Bree Kohler kept the Raiders alfoat in the first half, registering nine of her 13.

Jackie Adler paced the Eagles (1-15) with 12 points, making all four of Hubbard’s 3-pointers.

¯ MATHEWS 52, NEWBURY 41: NEWBURY — Ashley Deans scored 17 points for the Mustangs in a league win to move back to .500 on the season.

Deans’ 17 points was a game-high. Bria Gregory scored seven points and Brooke Bauer added six.

Mathews led 24-18 at the half and outscored the Black Knights 15-9 to pull away.

¯ PYMATUNING VALLEY 60 LORDSTOWN 12: ANDOVER — Kendall Baker scored all 16 of her points in the first half, and the Lakers dominated Lordstown a NAC contest against Lordstown.

Baker, who also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, outscored the Red Devils all by herself as PV (11-4, 9-2) held Lordstown to five field goals. Ellie Struna added 14 for the Lakers.

Lexie Drewek scored nine for Lordstown (0-15).

¯ BADGER 40, CHALKER 38: VERNON — The Braves were able to hold off Chalker to get their fifth league win of the year.

Badger held a one-point lead at halftime and continued to battle back with the Wildcats.

Calena Jablonski led the Braves with a game-high 13 points. Lauryn Hamilton added nine.

Mia Russomanno and Morgan Brook each had nine points for Chalker.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 76, SEBRING 22: NORTH JACKSON — Twelve different players scored for Jackson-Milton in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference thrashing of Sebring.

Abby Spalding scored a game-high 24 points for the Blue Jays (8-6), who led 33-5 at halftime. Chelsea Williams added 12 points, and Grace McDevitt put in 10.

Hannah Bross registered eight points to lead the Trojans.
