Lakeview, LaBrae both win conference games
¯ LAKEVIEW 74, HUBBARD 59: CORTLAND — Brendon Kilpatrick and Ryan Carnahan combined for 56 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Eagles in this Northeast-8 Conference battle.
Kilpatrick had a game-high 31 points for Lakeview (6-7, 3-2), while Carnahan added 25.
Chanze Kelley led Hubbard (3-5, 1-4) with 28 points.
¯ LaBRAE 67, LIBERTY 51: LEAVITTSBURG — Connor Meyer and Justin Rutherford combined for 12 points in the first quarter as the Vikings pulled away early from the Leopards with a 19-8 advantage.
Meyer had 16 points, while Rutherford added 13 for LaBrae (7-3, 3-1 All-American Conference, Blue Tier). Devin Carter added 15 points for the Vikings.
LaBrae outscored Liberty (3-7, 1-3) 20-8 in the third quarter to put this game away.
Jameer Weaver, who had four 3-pointers, paced the Leopards with 18 points.
¯ BOARDMAN 70, HOWLAND 38: HOWLAND — The Spartans remain undefeated with a big win over Howland.
After holding a six-point lead after the first quarter, Boardman’s offense exploded to pull away from the Tigers.
Leading on the scoreboard for the Spartans was Ethan Anderson who had 20 points. Derrick Anderson scored 15 points, Tommy Fryda had 14 and Charlie Davis added 10.
Howland was led by Anthony Massucci who scored 11.
¯ MATHEWS 80, CHALKER 42: SOUTHINGTON — After a heartbreaking loss to Pymatuning Valley on Tuesday, the Mustangs got back on the right track with a big win over Chalker.
Tyler Roscoe led the team with 27 points and drained five 3-pointers. Kyle Powell added 13 points, converting on four 3-point attempts.
The Mustangs move to 8-4 on the year and 5-2 in the league.
¯ LORDSTOWN 60, WINDHAM 58: LORDSTOWN — The Red Devils held off a furious comeback by the Bombers to win this Northeastern Athletic Conference contest.
Seth Stevens and Jay Frank each led Lordstown (4-6, 4-2 NAC) with 16 points, while Austin Milhoan added 13.
Bert Jones had 25 of his game-high 31 points in the second half as Windham rallied from a 31-17 halftime deficit and 46-31 after three quarters.
Jones paced the Bombers with 10 points as Windham outscored the Red Devils 27-14 in the final 8 minutes. Mikiylen Jones had 12 of his 14 points in that fourth quarter.
¯ MAPLEWOOD 55, BLOOMFIELD 14: MECCA — Logan Burggraf had eight of his game-high 21 points in the first quarter as the Rockets amassed a 22-0 lead after the first 8 minutes.
Burggraf had 15 points in the first half as Maplewood (2-8, 2-5 Northeastern Athletic Conference). Masyn Webster added 10 points for the Rockets.
Ben Peterson paced the Cardinals with five points.
¯ BRISTOL 87, NEWBURY 45: BRISTOLVILLE — Four Panthers reached double-digit scoring and two others were just one bucket short as the hosts rolled in a Northeastern Athletic Conference contest.
Bristol got 19 points from Nick Church, 15 from Matt Church, 14 from Mike Wiebe and 10 from Jacob Erjavec, while Seth Mooney added nine points and Matt Stephens finished with eight points. Matt Chruch also had 12 rebounds and four assists and Stephens supplied six steals, as Bristol moved to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the loop.
The Panthers led 30-11, 52-22 and 83-29 at the quarter stoppages.
Newbury dropped to 2-5 in league play.
¯ STRUTHERS 66, GIRARD 37: GIRARD — The Wildcats outscored the Indians 50-16 in the second half to dominate this Northeast-8 Conference game.
Trey Metzka led five double-figure scorers for Struthers (8-1, 4-1 NE-8) with 13 points. Carson Ryan had 12, while Aidan Slocum put in 11. Brandon Washington and Jared Laczko each had 10 points.
Christian Graziano led Girard (3-7, 2-3) with 14 points, while Thomas Cardiero added 13.
¯ SOUTH RANGE 46, NILES 38: NILES — The South Range defense was outstanding, especially in the second quarter, in the Raiders’ Northeast-8 Conference road win.
Ahead 11-9 after one quarter, the Raiders (6-3, 2-3 NE-8) put the clamps on the Red Dragons (2-8, 1-4) over the next eight minutes and led 24-11 at halftime.
Chris Brooks led the South Range offense with 27 points. Doug Foster led Niles with 14 points.
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 49, LOWELLVILLE 43: LOWELLVILLE — Mason Robison had six 3-pointers and a game-high 29 points to lead the Blue Jays to their first Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference win.
Jackson-Milton improves to 3-9, 1-6 MVAC.
Vinny Ballone paced Lowellville (6-5, 1-5) with 12 points, while Cole Bunofsky added 11 and Anthony Lucente put in 10.
¯ SPRINGFIELD 53, MINERAL RIDGE 51: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Drew Clark had 11 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Tigers outscored the Rams 22-14 in the first stanza. Evan Ohlin added 12 for Springfield (6-4, 4-2 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference).
Miles Culp paced Mineral Ridge (4-5, 3-4) with 13 points as the Rams rallied by outscoring the Tigers 27-20.
Maurice Clark had all of 11 of his points in the second half, while Austin Governer added 11 for Mineral Ridge.
¯ GARFIELD HTS. TRINITY 55, GRAND VALLEY 44: ORWELL — The host Mustangs were outscored 30-14 in the middle quarters as their record fell to 4-6 with the non-league loss.
Ashton Zupancic scored 18 points for Grand Valley, which led 15-12 after the first quarter, fell behind 28-25 at halftime and trailed 42-29 entering the fourth period. Malik Mitchell added 12 points.
