Liberty girls, McDonald boys roll

BOYS BASKETBALL

¯ McDONALD 80, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 51: LISBON — Zach Rasile scored 40 points for the Blue Devils as they win the Lisbon Tournament finals over Valley Christian.

Scoring was dominated by Rasile and Jake Portolese who combined for 68 of the team’s 80 points in the contest. Eli Street added five points.

Leading the Eagles was Lohron Brown who scored 19 points and Mark Revere who scored 11.

The Blue Devils move to 2-0 while Valley Christian falls to 1-1.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

¯ LIBERTY 70, BRISTOL 49: LIBERTY — Sharda Williamson reached 1,000 points in the Leopards’ victory over Bristol.

Williamson led the team with 20 points. Demi Watson added 15, with Cianna Smith and Delia Watson contributing 12 and 11 respectively.

Liberty stormed out in the first quarter, scoring 25 points. They slowed the pace throughout the rest of the game, but had amassed a comfortable lead, ending with a 21-point victory.

Tara Burggraf led the Panters with 20 points. Brittany Mooney contributed 13.

¯ NORDONIA 52, HOWLAND 40: HOWLAND — The Tigers suffer their first loss of the season in the Toni Ross Spirit Foundation Tournament finals to an undefeated Nordonia team.

Madison Cluse led the Knights, scoring 16 points. They outscored the Tigers 21-7 in the second quarter.

Leading Howland on the scoreboard was Alyssa Pompelia who had 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Maria Dellimuti and Courtney Clark each added seven points.

Howland gets back at it on Saturday against Niles.

¯ CHIPPEWA 53, URSULINE 44: DOYLESTOWN — Making the trip to Doylestown, the Fighting Irish starting their season with a challenge taking on powerhouse Chippewa.

Anisah Moorman led the team with 13 points and Paris Gilmore added 10. Ursuline led after the first quarter, but a strong effort in the middle quarters by the Chipps gave them the edge.

Ursuline falls to 0-1 on the year and looks to recover against Columbiana.
