Local teams populate first computer ratings

Area football teams can be found throughout the first weekly release of the Ohio High School Athletic Association computer ratings which were announced on Tuesday. In fact, all eight playoff qualifying positions are represented by a local team over the seven divisions of play.

Springfield (4-0) leads the way with its first-place position in the Division VI, Region 21 rankings. In second place in Division III, Region 9 is Niles, also off to a 4-0 start.

Hubbard (3-1) ranks third in Division IV, Region 13, while Garfield (4-0) is fourth in Division V, Region 17. It’s back to D-IV, Region 13 for sixth-place Girard (4-0) and seventh-place Poland (2-2). And Jackson-Milton (3-1) is tied for sixth in Division VII, Region 25. Austintown Fitch (3-1) stands eighth in Division II, Region 5.

Several other teams are in the hunt, with Cardinal Mooney (D-IV, Region 13), Western Reserve (D-VI, Region 21) and McDonald (D-VII, Region 25) holding the ninth spot in their respective regions.

Warren G. Harding (DII, Region 5) is 10th, as are Campbell (D-VI, Region 21) and Lowellville (D-VII, Region 25.
