Blue Jays come back vs. Tigers
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 26, NEWTON FALLS 21: NEWTON FALLS — Jackson-Milton scored with 10 seconds left to cap a come-from-behind victory over the Tigers.
Aeren Landis found Frankie Prozy in the end zone for the winning score. Landis was 7-of-12 for 61 yards and one TD for the Blue Jays (2-0). Sean Lengyel powered Jackson-Milton with 176 yards and three TDs on 26 carries.
Newton Falls (1-1) took a 14-6 lead on a pair of TD passes from Ivan Howard — 20 yards to Paul Broadrick and 44 yards to MItchell Harley. Lengyel’s third touchdown at the 8:58 mark of the fourth quarter allowed Jackson-Milton to take a 20-14 lead, but Harley added a 7-yard run with 7:08 left for Newton Falls. That extra point gave the Tigers a 21-20 edge, setting the stage for Landis and Prozy’s winning score.
¯ CHAMPION 22, RITTMAN 19: CHAMPION — The rushing attack from the Golden Flashes proved to be too much for Rittman.
Leading the charge for the Flashes was Austin Willforth who ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Nick Stahlman also made a difference with his legs rushing for 92 yards.
Champion won the game on a two-point conversion run from Stahlman after a one-yard Willforth run.
¯ GARFIELD 20, LaBRAE 7: GARRETTSVILLE — Garfield’s bend-but-don’t-break defense allowed just seven points to the Vikings despite 209 total yards in a non-conference victory.
The G-Men (2-0) ran for 198 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries. Connor Hrubik led a slew of backs with 74 yards on 11 carries. Jarrod Peters (37 yards, 7 carries) scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, and Ryan Stoller caught a 25-yard TD pass from Braent Wareham in the opening quarter. Wareham finished 4-of-6 for 28 yards and zero interceptions.
LaBrae’s Aidan Stephens got the Vikings (0-2) on the board with an 11-yard run. Stephens ran for a game-high 115 yards on 14 carries, completed 2-of-3 passes for 76 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards. LaBrae held a 309 to 226 advantage in total yards.
¯ SEBRING 37, CHALKER 29: SEBRING — The Trojans snapped a two-year losing streak with a win over Chalker. Zane Peterson threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns.
Chalker had a strong rushing attack, running for 333 yards. Logan Regal broke off runs of 55 and 64 yards.
¯ LOWELLVILLE 26, WINDHAM 20: LOWELLVILLE — Vinnie Kacir scored with 1:49 reamining to give the Rockets a win over the Bombers.
It was the second of two second-half scores by Kacir, who finished the game with 77 yards on 19 attempts.
Teammate Cole Bunofsky paced Lowellville (2-0) in the first with touchdown passes of 64 and 24 yards. He went 6 of 22 passing for 135 yards.
Errors plagued Windham (1-1). The Bombers turned the ball over six times — three fumbles and three interceptions — and committed 10 penalties for 80 yards. Bert Jones paces Windham with 145 yards and two scores on 15 carries.
