Weather wins on Monday in spring sports postseason

With spring comes rain, and with rain comes high school spring sports postponements. The rain doesn’t stop for the OHSAA tournament as most of Monday’s baseball and softball tournament games were postponed due to poor field conditions.

Bob Cene Park in Struthers, which plays host to baseball district tournaments in Divisions II, III and IV, saw the only game played in the area on Monday, a 10-0 victory for United Local over Columbiana.

All other games were rescheduled for today. The baseball tournament is in sectional week with games scheduled at the home sites of the better-seeded team and softball is in district week with games at neutral sites.

Monday’s schedule had Divisions I and IV playing in softball and Divisions II and III playing in baseball.

In the Division III LaBrae District in softball, a sectional bracket final between Wickliffe and Conneaut still has not been played though originally scheduled for May 9. That game, to be played at Wickliffe, has been rescheduled for today with the winner meeting Champion Wednesday in a district semifinal.

The other district semifinal, between Newton Falls and host LaBrae, is still scheduled for today, but the start time has been changed to 3:30 p.m. The district title game is still scheduled for Thursday.
