Stephens, Rasile, Elza named 1st-team All-Ohio

COLUMBUS — Three area players were named first-team All-Ohio when the Division III and IV boys basketball teams were announced Tuesday by a statewide media panel.

In Division III, LaBrae senior Tyler Stephens was named first-team All-Ohio after the 6-foot-6 senior averaged 19.9 points per game. Stephens, who was a second-team selection last year and this season’s Division IV Northeast Inland District Player of the Year, helped lead the Vikings to a 20-5 record and a district final appearance. A standout tight end on the football team, he committed to play football at Buffalo.

In Division IV, McDonald junior Zach Rasile was named to the first team along with Bristol’s Gage Elza.

Rasile had another banner year for the Blue Devils. Aside from setting the state record for career 3-pointers, he was named the Division IV Northeast Inland District Player of the Year. The 6-foot Rasile, who was named to the third-team last year, averaged 36 points per game.

Elza, also a senior, was the catalyst during Bristol’s district championship run. The 6-foot point guard averaged 26.2 points per game in leading the Panthers to a 21-5 record and a district final win over Northeastern Athletic Conference rival Badger.

The teams were selected by members of the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. The Division I and II All-Ohio teams will be announced today. The Ohio Mr. Basketball Award will be announced Thursday morning.
