Girard tops Springfield
GIRARD 64, SPRINGFIELD 59: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Girard’s big third quarter propelled them over the Tigers. The Indians outscored Springfield 21-12 in the third quarter to take a 58-43 lead.
Leading Girard (11-10) was Christian Graziano who scored 16 points. Three other players for Girard scored double-figures with Austin Claussell scoring 15, Matt Payich adding 14 and Adam Connelly scoring 13.
The Tigers outscored Girard by 10 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Shane Eynon scored 17 points leading the Tigers. Beau Brungard added 16, with 12 of those coming from behind the arc.
MATHEWS 51, JACKSON-MILTON 36: VIENNA — A big fourth quarter for the Mustangs carried them over Jackson-Milton Tuesday night.
Tyler Roscoe scored all 12 of his points in fourth quarter to spark the team. Zach Rhodanz added 11 points. The Mustangs (11-10) shot 8-8 from the free throw line in their 20-point fourth quarter as well.
Leading the Blue Jays (3-19) was Gavin Sahli who scored 10 points.
FITCH 83, EAST 82: AUSTINTOWN — Sophomore Todd Simons tied a school record Tuesday in his team’s victory over Youngstown East.
Simons scored 52 points, tying the school record set by Jack Morrison during the 1954-55 season. Kris Brown added 12 points. The Falcons (6-15) scored 28 points in the first quarter, with Simons scoring 10.
Youngstown East had their own high scorer with Carl Sadler scoring 26. Jerrell Jenkinds added 13. The Golden Bears had a last second shot go in, but it was determined it was shot after the buzzer, giving the Falcons the win.
