Kennedy boys, girls both victorious

JOHN F. KENNEDY 54, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 47: LOUISVILLE — The Eagles made almost as many 3-pointers (10) as 2-pointers (11) in the North Coast League White Division victory. JFK (2-0 overall) led 15-6 after one quarter and 36-13 at halftime before Aquinas closed the gap in the second half.

Josiah Hayes scored 15 points off the bench for Kennedy, Chris Williams tallied 12, Marcus Aulizia had 10 and Cameron Hollobaugh added nine.

FAIRPORT HARBOR 70, CHALKER 67: SOUTHINGTON — The Wildcats had a balanced attack led by Kyle Caracanas with 20 points in their season opener. Dylan Dye and Jordan Kellar added 10 points each, Joey McCafferty scored nine and Trystan Mollohan and Logan Regal tallied eight points each for Chalker.

Chalker led 20-13 after one quarter and trailed 35-34 at halftime. The scored was tied at 54 headed into the final quarter.

Girls

JOHN F. KENNEDY 66, NORTHEAST OHIO PREP 27: WARREN — Caitlyn Condoleon scored 27 points, made 14 steals, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists to lead the Eagles (1-1). She got plenty of support as Naomi Herman had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Danielle Bradley added 12 points.

JFK led 19-9 after one quarter and 30-15 at halftime before finishing off the victory with a 22-2 edge in the third quarter.

NEWTON FALLS 70, YOUNGSTOWN CHANEY 22: YOUNGSTOWN — A 24-0 edge in the second quarter pretty much finished off this rout for the Tigers (1-1). The big quarter left Newton Falls on top 39-8 at halftime.

Allison Sembach had 22 points and four assists, Elizabeth Barreca contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds and Bree Hutson had 14 points, five steals and six rebounds.

MATHEWS 47, LOWELLVILLE 38: VIENNA — Mathews improved to 1-1 as the Mustangs put three players in double figures in scoring. Ashley Deans had 17 points, 21 rebounds and five assists, Carlie Pratt had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six steals and Mya McGregor added 11 points.

Mathews maintained leads of 13-9 after one quarter, 24-19 at halftime and 36-32 after three quarters, putting the game away with an 11-6 fourth quarter.

BERKSHIRE 37, BRISTOL 30: BURTON — Brenna Rimer led Bristol (0-3) with 17 points and Bella Zirzow added nine.

The game was tied at 19-19 at halftime and the Panthers trailed by just 26-24 headed into the final quarter when Berkshire held an 11-6 edge.

AUSTINTOWN FITCH 71, AKRON KENMORE-GARFIELD 42: AUSTINTOWN — The Falcons (2-0) jumped out to a 21-5 lead after one quarter and led 49-14 at halftime in the rout.

Sabria Hunter scored 23 points for Fitch, Taylor Fronk had 17 and Jada Lazaro added 11.

CANTON MCKINLEY 82, URSULINE 66: YOUNGSTOWN — The Irish (2-2) hung with powerful Canton McKinley and their star player Kiersten Bell (36 points) trailing 28-27 at halftime and 46-41 after three quarters. But the Bulldogs rang up 36 points in the final quarter to pull away.

Dayshanette Harris led the Irish with 33 points. Lindsay Bell added 11 points and Cara McNally added nine.

CARDINAL MOONEY 51, SOUTHEAST 49: YOUNGSTOWN — The Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the season with a double-overtime victory. The game was tied at 42 apiece at the end of regulation.

Katie Hough scored 15 points for Mooney, Caitlin Perry had 14 and Conchetta Rinaldi added 11.
