CHAMPION — The top-seeded Champion Golden Flashes moved on to the district semifinal round of the Division III girls soccer tournament after a 10-0 victory over the Bristol Panthers Thursday night.

“We really talked about intensity, and we’ve talked about being a full team, and we’ve talked about different players stepping up when we needed them,” Flashes coach Stephanie Tice said. “I think overall, with those being our goals, we accomplished those well.”

The pace was nonstop in the Flashes’ favor, spending the majority of the 80 minutes in the attacking zone. Goaltender Emma Gumont didn’t have much to do during the match, but made her impact when needed, maintaining the shutout with a few clutch saves.

The Flashes had two of their top performers, Madison Luckett and Abby White, both score hat tricks. Luckett scored four goals, leading the team.

White scored her first goal of the game off a beautiful cross from Luckett, giving the Flashes a 3-0 lead.

“They’re not just great players, they’re great leaders, and they’re great girls,” Tice said. “To see them have that success, not just from a coaching standpoint, just from knowing them person to person, you just feel great for that success for them.”

Katie Katradis scored for the Flashes midway through the first half, a shot she snuck behind the goalkeeper as she stepped out of the box.

Champion led 4-0 at the half. Mallory Jessup and Morgan Hardman each scored during the second half, adding to the lead.

Champion moves on to face Berkshire Monday in the district semifinals. The fourth-seeded Badgers defeated Conneaut, 4-0.

“I did have a couple girls go see them, so we know a little about them, but we focus on what we do,” Tice said. “We’ll take what we learned from that scouting report, but we’ll focus on playing our game. We know it’s going to be a battle. We welcome it, we’re excited for it, I know they’re excited for it, so we expect a great game Monday night.”
