Canfield, Howland, Liberty swimmers move on to district

AKRON — Canfield’s boys swim team took fourth at Friday’s Division II Akron Sectional swimming meet with 302 points.

The Cardinals won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:28.73 and the 400 relay in 3:20.14.

Bobby Kutsch, Jason Paris, Kamran Sarac and Cullen Brady swam in both relays.

Sarac was second in the 50 freestyle (21.88), while Kutsch took second in 500 freestyle (5:02.85).

Meanwhile, Howland’s Jared Mindek was second in 100 breaststroke (1:01.14).

The top two in each event automatically advance to next weekend’s district meet at Cleveland State University.

The other top finishers from Akron and other northeast Ohio sectionals will be at-large bid determined on Sunday.

Liberty’s Olivia Benson took third in the 50 freestyle (25.47) and third in the 100 freestyle (57.50) on the girls side. Both of her times were faster than her seeded times.

Canfield’s Matthew Peckman, Joe Klepec, Robby DiDomenico and James Dietz took third in the 200 medley relay (1:46.33).

Sarac was third in 100 butterfly (53.40), while Paris took third in the 50 freestyle (22.34).
