Niles tabs Parry as new coach

NILES — Former Mathews coach Jim Parry was named head coach of the Niles football program by the board of education on Tuesday.

Parry replaces Brian Shaner who coached the Red Dragons for six seasons, compiling a record of 24-37, including a 2-8 mark this past season.

Parry is a 1990 Niles graduate and has been an assistant coach at several area schools, including Niles, since his seven-year run as head coach at Mathews. While there, Parry led the Mustangs to their first 10-0 season and their first two playoff appearances.

The Red Dragons are currently members of the All-American Conference White Tier, but will be joining the new Northeast-8 Conference during the 2018-19 school year.
