Former WGH star Culver to W.Virginia
Former Warren G. Harding basketball star Derek Culver has signed a letter of intent to play at and attend West Virginia University — a year later than expected.
Culver had committed to West Virginia while playing at Harding, but then the 6-foot-10 post player was dismissed from the team in January of his senior season for undisclosed reasons.
Culver currently attends Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
West Virginia coach Bob Huggins announced the signings Thursday of Culver and Andrew “Drew” Gordon from Northwest Florida State College.
Among other area high school students who signed or will sign letters of intent this week:
Lauren Dolak of Austintown Fitch signed with Youngstown State for track and field and soccer;
Khala Cameron of Austintown Fitch signed with Coppin State for volleyball;
Natalie Maras of Canfield will sign today with Findlay for volleyball.
