Why must politics ruin everything?
DEAR EDITOR:
As a retired military man, I was very dismayed at all the No Kings demonstrations on June 14 (Flag Day). The celebration of the Army’s 250th birthday was initiated during the Biden administration.
Whether they would have had a parade is unknown. It was a celebration for all the men and women who sacrificed years of family separations, careers and went to war to defend us from socialism and communism (which seems acceptable today) and defend our Constitution. Many protested because it was also Trump’s birthday.
There were many others who had birthdays on June 14. When I thought of someone that had a birthday on June 14, it was a friend of mine, a sergeant major who spent 37 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought on Iwo Jima when the fag was raised, served in Korea during that war and in Vietnam.
I also thought about the Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Korea and has his name listed on the Korean Memorial in Austintown, and Kenneth David of Girard, who was also awarded the Medal of Honor.
My thoughts were on all those who took the oath to defend this country from enemies foreign and domestic and are serving faithfully today.
Stupid politics have to ruin everything.
