As if ongoing controversy about Danny Lee Hill isn’t enough, now there are arguments to vacate the death sentence for Andre Williams. Why are these convicted felons (both found guilty of heinous acts of murder) allowed to be on death row for more than 20 or 30 years? They should have been granted one appeal, and that’s it. After that, the sentence should have been carried out. Endless appeals do nothing but cost taxpayers millions of dollars.

The continued scrambling of words and ideas related to LMC and its created debacle over EV production once again shifts to its faithful commitment to shareholders. The LMC brass are propping it up to hammer the last dollar out of the sinking shell (game). Where is the FCC? Like Enron and Delphi the government agencies wait till the damage is complete and shareholders and general public remain the losers.

Warren Safety-Service Director Eddie Colbert is wrong when he says “We cannot arrest our way out of this.” How would he or city leaders know that, when they have not tried? I am glad to hear the plan to address teen violence. However, Warren must address the adults who are shooting up houses and murdering folk. Yes, Mr. Colbert, they should be arrested. To protect the public, these violent criminals should be arrested and locked up.

Father Carl Kish celebrated his retirement mass at St. Roberts in Cortland last Sunday. Father has been pastor there for 35 years of his 61 years of priesthood. He is a man of peace, love, humility and wisdom with a great sense of humor. God knows we need more men like him. Thank you so much Father. You are appreciated and loved.

The Vienna Township Cemetery is a disgrace. Our loved ones deserve a beautiful resting place, not a field of unmown grass, dandelions and clover. There’s a huge pile of debris on the west side of the cemetery which has been there for close to a year. What seems to be the problem? Visit any cemetery in surrounding townships and you’ll find mowed and trimmed grounds. Possibly whoever is in charge can ask how they do it.

“Internet for all” was the rallying cry for those tech savvy politician of the 2000s. Fast forward 20 years. Broadband internet for all, our president announced this week; $40 billion somehow will be used to cover the last mile to people’s homes. Of course, it’s early in the process, but my first thought was: who manages the money? Finally, what government program will make it affordable, an extra $120 in our EBT Cards?

We need to defeat Issue 1. This is a democracy of the people where every vote should count. If it passes, it would require 60 percent of votes to pass an Ohio constitutional amendment, instead of 50 percent plus 1. This means 10 percent of our votes won’t count. One person equals one vote. Vote no on Issue 1.
